The
USCO looks forward to working with the new government
to address these and the many other matters that concern
the dignity and well-being of Canadian seniors.
The
housing meeting in December was informative and hopeful.
There is no doubt that all levels of government are
more and more responsive to the housing needs of seniors
and that includes home support.
As
municipalities apply for funding from the provincial
government, you should be seeing an increase in available,
affordable housing units - keep asking your municipality
when they will be providing senior housing in your
community.
In
the January issue, there was a letter regarding seat
belt legislation. Many seniors have expressed their
concerns about lack of seat belts in buses. Please
copy the letter and have your club members send it
to the premier, so that legislation can be enacted
to protect all who use buses.
This
is how you make change happen!
Thanks
to the contributors of The Voice - the editorials,
articles and club news keep us all aware of what's
happening.
So
many of the USCO clubs are celebrating long years
of belonging to this association and the changes that
seniors have brought about through community involvement,
volunteerism, activity and companionship continues
to inspire us all. Keep sharing your news with us
through The Voice.
Remember,
at your very next meeting, raise the issue of resolutions.
Are you concerned about doctor shortages, transportation,
rising costs of utilities, gas, etc., or whatever
may be important in your area? Resolutions are an
excellent way to bring these matters forward. See
the sample resolution in this issue - feel free to
copy it.
WE
WILL NOT ACCEPT LATE RESOLUTIONS IN 2006 - THE DEADLINE
IS APRIL 10, 2006.
Feel
free to share The Voice with others - it's full of
information of interest to seniors.
