The people who are procrastinators say, I'll do that tomorrow. Because the day we live in is called today, tomorrow never comes. This means that things left till tomorrow never are accomplished or they arrive on our doorstep in a rush that can no longer wait.

In mid October I had the pleasure of visiting a meeting of Zone 3 in Brantford. It was good to meet the members attending there and see the interest in their clubs. Later the same week there was a planned meeting with Tim Hudak (Leader of the Opposition); however, due to his time in the area being limited, it was postponed. This seems to be a trend with meetings concerning harmonized sales tax.

On October 20th I was invited to a Press Conference with the Attorney General of Canada. This was held by him to announce that on Wednesday October 21st, he would introduce a bill in parliament that would set out penalties for white collar crime. The USCO has supported this action as a means of preventing fraud and theft in the securities industry, as it left seniors destitute in some instances.

As the invitation included a "meet and greet" time before the conference there was an opportunity to speak with Mr. Nicholson. Because some of our concerns were not addressed in this bill, he explained that this was a first step and that two other departments, namely Justice and Public Safety would also be involved and would be heard from soon.

On the same day as the press conference, Zone 36 held their Annual Fall Meeting. As Zone Past President I was expected to attend and conduct the election of the executive. I managed to arrive for a late lunch and to conduct the elections.

Zone President Betty Dowd commented that the meeting should be well informed as both the USCO president and the USCO secretary were present. That week was busy because the next two days involved travel and a meeting with government regarding affordable housing for seniors.

In November meetings seemed to never end. We also remembered those who served and those still serving on foreign soil to perserve our freedom and way of life.

This being December, Joan and I extend our sincere and heartfelt wishes to each and everyone for a happy, bountiful and blessed Christmas and a prosperous and joyous New Year.
